Airport Lounge - Tonight And Seven Years Ago
Our apartment missed us today.
Marie and I had a lovely breakfast at our fave Saturday-morning joint, Krakatoa Cafe. We love that place. Great food, comfy patio, free Wi-Fi...perfect.
In the early afternoon, while Marie was checking out the Y-Conference, I met Brandon, Annette, and Araceli at the Princess Pub for a few cold Newcastles and a relaxing lazy silly chat.
In the early evening I joined Marie at the Airport Lounge for the Y-Conference afterparty. The Airport Lounge is a very cool place, by the way. Worth checking out. The interior resembles the inside of a plane. Very stylish. The bartenders are all dressed in flight attendant uniforms and the outside area is right below the path of the seconds-till-landing airplanes. I swear you could almost touch them if you jumped - depending on how much you've had to drink.
At the Airport Lounge we ran into a number of familiar faces, most notably Bernard who used to drum for serahtonic back in the day. A great pleasant surprise! I just found the photo on the right and to my even greater surprise, I noticed that it is from exactly 7 years ago tomorrow. The photo was taken after our show at Brick By Brick opening for the awesome live band Swervedriver. I remember the day as if it was yesterday. I had just returned from visiting Marie in Paris and I remember taking a cab from the airport straight to Brick By Brick for the show. And the craziest thing is that I was at a real Airport Lounge back then exactly 7 years ago on the same date as today!
Sometimes when you have a drink or two, you don't really want to go home and call it a night. You want to feel alive and tonight was such a night for me, especially after running into Bernard and having all these sentimental memories flooding my brain. The night had become our mountain slope, inviting us to ski or snowboard, or even tube it if not stable enough. By now there was no stopping or turning back - we already had our boots strapped on and were already coming off the gates on the slopes of San Diego nightlife. With goggles on or not, the race was on. Joined Brandon, Rick, and Jeff and checked out Scelfo's DJ set at the brand new Confidential Restaurant & Loft. Nice. Very nice. Not too many wipe outs and a nice smooth ride for the most part.
While watching Scelfo spin his records on the turntables, I kept thinking about the old days of serahtonic with Bernard and how, similar to the rotating vinyl, in 7 years we've spun around a full circle. Out of the blue we ran into each other tonight...at an Airport Lounge - a place that I was at exactly 7 years ago. Wicked! My head was definitely spinning like them vinyl records and my mind was definitely up in the clouds with them airplanes all night.
I forget if I turned off the iron at home.

That cat on the left of the photo looks like a legit, indie rock, hardcore bass player!! Wha happened? He's been replaced with a master web designer and music enthusiast.
Why does it seem Senor Puma shaved years off your life with all his drama and b.s.
I can totally see how you were 100% into it then and no longer now... I feel for ya bro.
